African Mahogany (Khaya senegalensis) – the first of multiple plantation harvests in Queensland & the Northern Territory, Australia.
We are thrilled with the log quality (i.e. size, density, colour, stability) & importantly, the feedback we are receiving from both domestic & international market players for this species is uplifting.
This sustainably grown African Mahogany (currently being harvested near Cooktown in Far North Queensland, Australia) represents the ‘tip of the iceberg’ of what is essentially an uncommitted, yet expanding timber resource opportunity ideal for Australian hardwood sawmills and export markets, and importantly at a time wherein demand is outstripping supply for feature grade flooring, decking, furniture & alike.
The minimum small end diameter (SED) is a healthy 18cm+ whilst the average lengths are >2.1m. The colour is excellent, with a distinct transition to a darker colour from the younger blonde colour grade assessed several years ago. The timber structure continues to be robust.
Local sawmills are showing solid interest and have started to receive supply trials of this currently uncommitted resource. For those sawmills interested, we highly recommend reaching out to secure your trial load.
Whilst global export logistics remains challenging for everyone irrespective of country or jurisdiction, Smith Agri International has successfully exported numerous timber resources throughout COVID times including; the uniquely short length, small diameter Indian Sandalwood log resource via Darwin & Perth ports to ports around the world.
For sophisticated investors, we suggest taking advantage of known maturing African Mahogany plantation properties that are currently available for sale via Smith Agri International.
